If you are in need of comfort viewing right now, or at the very least something that could be described as “semi-pleasant distraction that will keep you from doomscrolling,” may I suggest Paddington 2.
I decided to watch it yesterday just so I didn’t stare at the ceiling in despair. But it ended up being more than a mere distraction. It reminded me of something vital.
There is a scene in the movie that communicates how much Paddington’s absence from his neighborhood makes an impact. His family and neighbors are snippy, grumpy and less tolerant of each other. This is in stark contrast to earlier scenes that show how Paddington made everyone’s lives just a little better, from his thoughtful gestures to being sweet and friendly to everyone around him.
So at the end of the film, they all band together to help Paddington as a way to thank him for all he has given them. A beautiful ending to a movie that feels like a warm hug.

For me, it was much-needed reminder that we all make an impact, whether we realize it or not. Right now, we’re feeling the impact of a lot of choices that in no way align with ours. But the counterbalance is what we do in the face of it.
So I sent messages to some people letting them how much they mean to me, and their impact on me. Through the darkness and the numbness, I wanted to provide just a tiny bit of light. Honestly, it was really to help me feel better too—to help remind me how much goodness still exists. And that we just need to keep showing up for each other.
When so much seems out of our control, this is the one thing that we can always do. And it will always matter.
Hugh Grant is so good in this.
Thank you.🙏🏼❤️
