Adele Goes Undercover as a Celebrity Impersonator
The pop star infiltrated a group of Adele impersonators and surprised them to tears.
One of the oddest things about being a celebrity must be the fact that if you’re a big enough star, you will inspire others to impersonate you. Sometimes as their career.
Which is why I have always been so charmed by this 2015 clip of Adele surprising a group of Adele impersonators…while pretending to also be an Adele impersonator.
With the help of some clever makeup, Adele becomes “Jenny,” just one of several people auditioning to be an Adele impersonator. Adele has always been funny, but seeing her in this clip makes me think she should appear in a comedy someday.
The best part is when the other impersonators realize they’re in the presence of the real Adele. When you watch, you might get just as teary as them.
(If you enjoyed this clip and want to see more of Adele interacting with the other Adeles—she’s a riot—there is an extended version from her BBC special too.)
Reading recs:
-Vogue has a fun oral history of Mamma Mia!, the unlikely ABBA musical that spun off two super-popular movies. Despite her character (spoiler alert, I guess?) dying in the sequel, Meryl Streep says she’s down for a third movie. If so, then then they should definitely go with Meryl’s title idea: Grand-Mamma Mia!
-The Union Solidarity Coalition is having an amazing auction to provide financial support to crew members impacted by the strike-related shutdown. Stars are offering to walk your dog, paint a mural in your home, paint a watercolor of your dog, and help you complete the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle.
So many highly specific things to bid on, and all for a great cause! The internet has also come up with some brilliant fake options. How I wish this one was real.
-The Oakland Public Library has a site dedicated to cataloging everything that has ever been left in a library book, like photographs, lists and Post-Its. I love this list called WRITING!, in which a child posits several thoughtful questions about cats. (Sample: “What is the history behind cats? Meow!”)
And this week’s fun fact:
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words.
(My fear is having to write this word without spellcheck.)
Thanks for reading! And I’d appreciate it if you would share this with anyone you might think enjoy it too.
