A Mime Interrupting a 'Real Housewives' Fight is Pure Comic Mayhem
A mime goes amok in one of the funniest moments in the Bravo franchise.
The Real Housewives franchise is best known for drama and feuding, but also? It can be super funny. Especially The Real Housewives of Potomac.
RHOP viewers have watched frenemies Gizelle and Karen square off countless times. So to have one of their many tiffs hijacked by a mime was, well, sublime.
No other Housewives bicker more entertainingly than these two, but to have a mime drop in on them right as Karen yells “get a life!” at Gizelle is high-level comedy. And how these women deal with his antics, while still taking pot-shots at each other, is Real Housewives at its’ best.
Honestly, it’s worth seeing the whole episode (fittingly titled “Mime Your Own Business”)1 to see how he derails their conversation. But the above video does capture Karen’s iconic reaction: “This is bullshit! WHO ARE YOU?”
The Real Housewives of Potomac is my favorite of the Housewives shows, but right now its universally agreed that it is in its flop era. As this clip shows, RHOP is capable of greatness! Here’s to hoping it can reach this kind of zany heights again.
Reading recs:
NYT bestselling author Andrea Bartz has just launched a Substack, and her newsletter features a directory of successful query letters (including mine!). This is a tremendous resource for aspiring authors and definitely worth checking out.
"To achieve the current iteration of the American dream, you’ve got to shout into the digital void and tell everyone how great you are." Ugh, yes. A must-read feature at Vox about the mental and creative toll of self-promotion.2
Sometimes I feel like an oddball for noticing random things, like a celeb’s manicure. But after reading this from Hunter Harris, I feel so validated!
This week’s fun fact:
I like fun facts that are so weird they seem made up. Like this one.
McDonald’s once had bubblegum-flavored broccoli.
It was a part of a strategy to encourage kids to eat healthier, but of course, kids just found the taste confusing. And probably never ate another piece of broccoli again.
Thanks for reading and wishing you a bubblegum-flavored week!
The scene from this GIF isn’t in the YouTube clip for some reason, but it should be! Also, revisiting the episode reminded me that the mime wasn’t just randomly walking by, but enlisted to invite the women on a cast trip to France. Which is also just so Housewives.
The irony of mentioning this in my Substack is not lost on me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
